Westover Christian Academy operates as a ministry of Westover Baptist Church of Danville, Virginia.

Grades:  K2 through 12th grade

Total Enrollment:  429

Founded:  1977

Accreditation:  Fully accredited by Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI), Virginia Council for Private Education, and AdvancED (SACS).
 

Academic Year:  Two semesters (total of 180 school days) divided into 6 six-week grading periods
 
Admissions
Pre-admission forms, student applications, and pastoral reference forms are available at the WCA office. Information regarding admission policies, registration procedures, and current tuition rates is available at the WCA office.
 
 
Curriculum
Elementary (Grades K-6):  The elementary program is characterized by strong phonics, mathematics, and character instruction in order to build a firm foundation for each student's academic and spiritual life. Music, art, library, computer, recess, physical education, chapel, field trips, and special activities are integrated on a regular basis into the academic program. A-Beka, Bob Jones, and ACSI curriculums are implemented in traditional classrooms; team teaching in upper elementary grades guide students through the transition from elementary to junior high.

Junior High (Grades 7-8):  A challenging curriculum (including A-Beka, Bob Jones, and Saxon) includes honors math courses and electives in choral and instrumental music, computer keyboarding, art, and speech and drama.

Senior High (Grades 9-12):  College preparatory curriculum offers core courses and electives leading to either a Standard or Advanced Studies Diploma. Weighted honors courses are offered in English, mathematics, science, Spanish, and band.
 
 
Graduation Requirements
Students may earn a Standard Diploma by meeting the minimum requirements for the twenty-four-credit diploma or an Advanced Studies Diploma which requires a minimum of twenty-eight units of credit.

Testing
Stanford Achievement Tests and Otis Lennon School Abilities Tests are administered annually to all students, grades K-9. Students in grades 10-12 take college entrance exams:  PSAT, SAT I and II, ACT, and AP exams as necessary. The College Board code for WCA is 470-669.

WCA seeks to provide a school setting that combines academic challenge, spiritual nurturing, and significant co-curricular activities that enhance the WCA mission outside the classroom. WCA competes in interscholastic athletics as part of the Virginia Association of Christian Athletics (VACA)  in the following sports:

Special Services
The Enrichment Center is designed to enhance learning and1meet individual academic goals. Services include assessment of individuals needs, tutorial intervention, and IEP administration for students with learning differences.
 
 
Grading Scale
The following grading scale is used:

A - 94-100
B - 86-93
C - 78-85
D - 70-77
F - Below 70

Examinations (90 minutes each) are administered to students in grades 9-12 at the end of each semester on designated exam days. The semester average is computed by averaging the double of each grading period with the exam. The yearly grade is computed by averaging the two semester averages.
 
 
Awards
At the conclusion of each school year, WCA recognizes students who have shown extraordinary achievement, effort and character in various areas at a special awards chapel. Such awards include honor roll, perfect attendance, departmental outstanding achievement awards, student of the year, and the President's Award for Educational Excellence. Athletic awards are presented at seasonal awards ceremonies. At graduation, honor graduates are recognized according to their cumulative GPA:
 
Summa Cum Laude - 3.75

Magna Cum Laude - 3.50

Cum Laude - 3.25
 
Valedictorian and Salutatorian are recognized according to the guidelines listed in the Academic Handbook.
